Choose by Handling and Storage Method

The correct pallet depends on more than its external dimensions. Floor storage, forklift transport, loaded stacking, beam racking and automated handling require different structures and load ratings.

Export

One-Way Export

Lightweight and nestable options for container shipping, non-return logistics and lower empty-pallet volume.

Supported

Floor Storage

Pallets selected around evenly distributed static loads on a level, continuously supported floor.

Movement

Forklift Transport

Structures configured around dynamic load, fork-entry clearance, unit-load stability and the handling route.

Unit loads

Loaded Stacking

Stable base options for applications where loaded pallet units are placed directly on one another.

Open span

Beam Racking

Rackable configurations evaluated by beam span, support direction, load distribution and deflection.

Automation

Conveyors & AS/RS

Defined pallet interfaces for rollers, chains, sensors, stacker cranes, shuttles and AGVs.

Build a Starting Recommendation

Select the load and support condition. This tool identifies a starting structure, not an engineering approval.

FIBC & bulk bag application

Plastic Pallets for FIBC Bulk Bags, Jumbo Bags and Super Sacks

FIBC loads require a pallet footprint that supports the filled bag without excessive overhang. Selection should consider bag dimensions, total weight, load distribution, forklift interface and whether the pallet is used for export, floor storage or repeated handling.

Typical materials include plastic resins, polymer granules, chemical powders, fertilizers, pigments and industrial minerals.

Support the filled footprint

Measure the loaded bag—not only the nominal empty-bag size—and review potential bulging beyond the pallet edge.

Separate static from moving load

A floor-supported static rating cannot be used as the forklift-handling capacity.

Match the service cycle

Use lightweight nestable pallets for suitable export lanes and reinforced structures for demanding repeated handling.

Chemical drum application

Plastic Pallets for Chemical Drums and Barrels

Drum loads create concentrated contact points on the deck. The correct plastic pallet depends on drum diameter, drum quantity, total unit-load weight, usable deck area, forklift access and loaded-stacking requirements.

Build the pallet specification around the drum layout

Our drum-handling options can be reviewed for steel drums, plastic drums and fiber drums, including common 200 L and 55-gallon containers. Do not select a pallet from the nominal footprint alone.

Drum dimensions

Provide diameter, height, filled weight and number of drums per pallet.

Deck contact

Confirm the usable deck area, contact points, anti-slip features and retaining edge.

Load restraint

Review stretch wrap, strapping, dividers and movement during transport.

Support method

Separate floor, loaded stacking and beam-rack requirements.

Deck & Base Options

Open-grid, closed-deck, runner-base, full-perimeter, double-faced and reinforced configurations are available by model.

Racking & automated handling

Rackable Plastic Pallets for Chemical Warehouses and AS/RS

A static floor-load rating does not demonstrate rack performance. Rackable pallets must support the defined unit load across the actual rack beams without excessive deflection.

Automation-ready pallets must also interact consistently with conveyors, sensors, stacker-crane forks, shuttles, transfer stations and AGVs.

Beam-rack review

Confirm span, orientation, unit-load distribution, temperature, duration, reinforcement and allowable deformation.

Conveyor interface

Match runner geometry to roller pitch, chain centers, guides and transfer points.

Validate before volume

Test the exact pallet configuration in the customer's rack or automated system before bulk purchasing.

Selection basis: Confirm container quantity, total load, required sump capacity, chemical compatibility, drain requirement and applicable site rules. Material suitability depends on the substance, concentration, temperature and exposure duration.
Technical selection guide

How to Select a Plastic Pallet for Chemical Loads

Start with the packaged load—not the pallet size alone. A pallet that performs on a supported floor may not be suitable for beam racking, automated conveying or long-term outdoor use.

STEP 01

Define the Packaging

Record the filled dimensions and contact points of drums, FIBC bags, sacks, octabins, IBCs or rigid containers.

STEP 02

Calculate the Unit Load

Confirm total weight and whether the load is evenly distributed, concentrated or likely to shift.

STEP 03

Identify the Support

Specify floor, loaded stacking, rack beams, conveyor supports or automated lifting points.

STEP 04

Confirm Equipment

Provide forklift-fork dimensions, entry direction, pallet-jack needs and conveyor or AGV interfaces.

STEP 05

Review the Environment

Confirm temperature, outdoor exposure, cleaning method and direct or accidental chemical contact.

STEP 06

Define the Service Cycle

Choose for one-way export, occasional reuse or high-frequency closed-loop operation.

RatingWhat it describesWhat it does not proveConfirm before use

Material, export & customization

Configure the Pallet Around the Chemical and Supply Chain

Material, structure and optional features should follow the actual chemical exposure, temperature, load condition, handling route and service cycle.

HDPE & PP Options

HDPE and PP offer different balances of impact performance, stiffness, temperature behavior and chemical resistance. Confirm the exact resin by model.

Chemical Compatibility

No single plastic suits every acid, alkali or solvent. Review substance, concentration, temperature, contact duration and mechanical load.

Export Shipping

Plastic pallets are not solid-wood packaging and are not subject to ISPM 15 treatment requirements for regulated wood packaging.

Deck & Base

Model-dependent choices include open-grid or closed decks with nine-leg, runner, full-perimeter or double-faced bases.

Reinforcement & Restraint

Review steel reinforcement, anti-slip inserts, retaining edges and load-securing features against the application.

Identification

Custom color, logo, barcode, numbering and RFID options may support identification and closed-loop asset control.

Compatibility review: Provide the chemical name or SDS, concentration, exposure type, operating temperature and cleaning method. Available options vary by pallet model and order quantity.
Manufacturing & validation

Frequently asked questions

Questions About Chemical & Industrial Plastic Pallets

Direct answers to common FIBC, drum, rack, material, export and containment questions.

What size plastic pallet is suitable for an FIBC bulk bag?
The pallet should be selected according to the filled-bag footprint, total weight, load distribution and handling method. A 1100 × 1100 mm pallet is commonly considered for square FIBC bags, but the loaded bag dimensions must be checked to avoid excessive overhang.
Can the Y-382 pallet carry a 2,000 kg FIBC?
The stated 2,000 kg capacity is a static rating for an evenly distributed load under defined floor-supported conditions. The stated dynamic load is 1,000 kg. The static rating must not be interpreted as approval to move a 2,000 kg FIBC by forklift.
Which pallet is suitable for four 55-gallon or 200-litre drums?
The correct pallet depends on drum diameter, drum arrangement, filled weight, usable deck area and handling method. Send the drum dimensions and total load so we can compare suitable square or industrial pallet models. Do not assume that every nominal pallet footprint supports four drums without overhang.
What is the difference between a drum transport pallet and a spill pallet?
A drum transport pallet supports drums during storage and movement. A spill pallet includes a containment sump designed to collect leaks or drips. A standard transport pallet should not be presented as a secondary-containment product.
Can all plastic pallets be used on beam racks?
No. A pallet must be specifically evaluated for the actual rack span, support direction, load distribution, temperature, duration and allowable deflection. Static and dynamic ratings do not establish rack suitability.
Does four-way entry mean the pallet works with a hand pallet truck?
Not necessarily. Four-way entry generally describes forklift access. A hand pallet truck also requires suitable openings and clearance for its forks and load wheels. Confirm pallet-jack compatibility for the selected model.
Are plastic pallets resistant to all chemicals?
No single plastic is resistant to every chemical under every operating condition. Suitability depends on the chemical, concentration, temperature, exposure duration, cleaning method and mechanical load. Review the SDS and confirm compatibility before use.
Should I choose an HDPE or PP pallet for chemical handling?
The choice depends on the pallet design and application. HDPE is often considered where impact performance and lower-temperature handling matter, while PP can provide greater stiffness in some configurations. Chemical exposure, temperature and load conditions must also be reviewed.
Do plastic pallets require ISPM 15 treatment or fumigation?
Plastic pallets are not solid-wood packaging and are not subject to the heat treatment or fumigation requirements applied to regulated wood packaging under ISPM 15.
What is the difference between static, dynamic and rack load?
Static load refers to a pallet supported on a level floor. Dynamic load relates to handling with specified equipment. Rack load relates to support across defined beams or open spans. These ratings represent different conditions and must not be used interchangeably.
What are CP chemical pallets?
CP pallets are standardized pallet formats developed for chemical and plastics supply chains. Different CP models are associated with different footprints and packaging formats, including sacks, drums, FIBC bags and octabins.
Do you supply plastic alternatives for CP1, CP3, CP8 or CP9 applications?
Preface Plast can review plastic pallet options for operations using CP-style chemical pallet footprints. Send the required CP model, dimensions, packaging format and handling conditions. A pallet should only be identified as a specific CP model when its dimensions and construction match the required specification.
What information is needed for a recommendation and quotation?
Provide the packaging type and dimensions, total load per pallet, load distribution, handling equipment, storage method, operating temperature, quantity and destination. For chemical-contact applications, also provide the chemical name or SDS.
